1000-Armed Chenrezig (Sahasrabhuja Avalokiteshvara) is the most exalted and powerful manifestation of Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion. This sacred form symbolizes Chenrezig’s boundless vow to liberate all sentient beings from suffering. According to tradition, when Chenrezig witnessed the immeasurable pain of the world, his heart overflowed with compassion so vast that his body shattered. Through the blessing of Amitabha Buddha, he was reborn with a thousand arms and a thousand eyes, enabling him to see the suffering of beings in every direction and reach out to help them without limitation.

Each of the thousand arms represents tireless compassionate activity, while the eye in every palm symbolizes that true compassion must always be guided by wisdom. The central pair of hands, joined at the heart holding a wish-fulfilling jewel, expresses the perfect union of wisdom and compassion for the benefit of all beings. Often depicted with eleven faces, stacked in tiers above his head, 1000-Armed Chenrezig reflects his all-seeing awareness across the different realms of existence. His white body color signifies purity, selfless love, and freedom from ignorance.
