This serene Medicine Buddha Thangka presents Bhaisajyaguru flanked by two standing bodhisattvas — one in luminous white to the left, the other in warm golden-yellow to the right — each holding blossoming lotus flowers and standing gracefully upon their own pink lotus pedestals. This triad arrangement, rather than a solitary figure, emphasizes the collaborative nature of healing and compassionate activity within Medicine Buddha practice.
Behind the central Buddha rises one of the most elaborately worked halos in this tradition: a broad golden nimbus patterned with fine scrollwork encircles a pink inner ring of radiating lines, creating layers of depth and richness rarely matched in simpler compositions. His radiant blue form holds the medicine bowl filled with healing herbs, while a flowering myrobalan branch rises beside his extended hand.
The surrounding landscape teems with life: deer graze in pairs at the lower left, monkeys perch on rocks to the right, yaks rest in the distant hills, and cranes wade near the water — an abundance of peaceful creatures that reflects the restorative harmony central to this deity's blessing. The throne base features a pair of white lions on either side of a draped orange textile, adding ceremonial weight to the composition.
Hand-painted in traditional Himalayan style, this richly populated thangka is ideal for home altars, healing centers, and meditation rooms seeking a devotional image of exceptional detail and vitality.
P.S. This Medicine Buddha Thangka is painted taking references from Buddhist books following the correct iconography and by master artists, making it authentic traditional handmade Tibetan art. The subtle facial expression is one factor to distinguish the real effort put into creating this masterpiece.
